Today we’re going to learn how to draw chibi. What’s a chibi you might ask? Oh my oh my… Well, it’s kind of hard to explain. A chibi is a short, funny and squishy caricature of what are usually regular anime/manga (or other) characters. Their a lot shorter and with bigger heads. For more details, check out Wiki.

But enough about this. We’re here to draw chibi not to discuss about it. Mainly, if you’re a pretty good anime drawer you should not have any problem with the chibi people. We can’t say there are any particular rules for drawing chibi, everyone does it as they want to. Below you can find a couple of examples.

But, if you are looking for a step by step guide, we have one in a picture (a little bit bellow). The main steps are the following:

Begin by drawing the shape of the face and head. Chibi are like kids, so the faces should be very round and should represent at least 1/3 of the entire body.

Then draw the eyes in the center of the face. They are very very large, being the most important part of a chibi character. Use pupils, irises and eyebrows to give your characters the facial expression you want to.

In most cases, chibi don’t have a nose, but if you still want to draw one, make it just a little dot above the mouth.

Add a very simple mouth Then focus on the hair, but still keep it pretty simple, but expressive

Then draw the body. Chibi bodies are chubby, very small compared to the head and so are the arms and legs too.

Add shadows and final lines. Color your chibi and.. that’s about it.

Another great chibi drawing guide you can find here, or in the picture below.

And of course, you can learn how to draw chibi from videos. We have a couple of them, quite interesting i might add, just bellow. Check them out.

How to draw chibi heads

Six ways of drawing chibi faces

And that’s it. You can now consider yourself a chibi drawing expert. Actually, no, but if you keep practicing all the things showed in this tutorial, you will once day know how to draw chibi. In the mean time, keep drawing and don’t forget to read our other manga/anime drawing guides.

There are a couples of tips for drawing children’s anime faces every manga/anime drawer should know. Of course, these are mainly pointed towards beginners, as I’m sure the advanced ones know them for a while.

But here we go. You know that every face starts with a circle and a cross, that will help you position the elements. I’ve told you that over and over again. For a child though, this guideline should be as round as possible, oval heads being more suitable for grownups.

What you might now have known is that the relationship of these elements will determine if your character is an adult or a child. Mostly, the vertical distance between the eyes and nose lines is the one that matters. As you can see in the picture bellow, there’s a great difference between a round and an oval head, and also between placing the eyes upper or lower on the face.

Next, when drawing a child you should make the eyes bigger than when drawing a grown up. Also, you should position them below the horizontal guideline that you sketched in the beginning. As you can see in the example, doing this will help your face resemble more one of a kid.

And last but not least, you should be careful when drawing the nose: for a child, the nose is very thin, almost indistinguishable.

That’s about it. Some of the pictures and tips used in this guide came from here. Anyway, if you have other interesting tips for drawing children faces, don’t be a bugger and please share them with us, will you?

After you learned how to draw manga faces a couple of days ago, it’s now time for more tips about how to draw anime faces. In the next paragraphs you will learn how the various parts of the face work together to convey different emotions. Once you learn what features to change to achieve the look you want, you should be able to draw any anime face expression you want.

Every anime/manga face sketch starts with a circle. It could be round or more or less oval. In this circle, you draw a cross, a guideline that will help you place face elements. You will then position the eyes, nose, mouth, etc and they will determine the face expression.

The most important factor for the expression of a character is the eye, with the eyelid and the eyebrow. Its shape can help you convey different emotions, from happiness to anger, while the size of the iris is important too. The mouth also helps determine the mood of the character. In the next examples you’ll see exactly how.

Anime face expression: sadness

Very big eyes, eyelids angled upwards towards the center of the face, very large irises, a couple of tears in the cornet of the eyes and a small mouth slightly opened and curved downwards are the elements that indicate a sad face. As you can see in the picture below.

Anime face expression: angriness

There are a couple of ways for drawing an angry anime face. You could use a big shouting mouth, big eyes with big irises and eyebrows curved down sharply. This character is mad and is screaming at someone.

The second approach is different, showing a character very angry and ticked off. The eyebrows are very close to the eyes, still curved down sharply. The mouth is closed, the eyes and irises are a lot smaller. And you can even see the folds in the skin caused by the eyebrows being so knitted.

Anime face expression: happiness

Happiness is suggested by very big eyes, highly arched eyebrows pointing downwards and a very big smiling mouth, usually opened. You can see some examples in the pictures.

Anime face expression: surprised

To show a surprised or astonished face you need to make the eyes incredibly big, but very very small irises. The mouth is usually small and round and the eyes are kind of highly arched.

There are lots of other types off faces, but the examples above should help you get started. If you’re looking for tips on how to draw other emotions too, please study the pictures below or read some of the tips from here.

The pictures are from Deviantart.

That’s about it for this lesson of drawing face expressions for anime faces. In the next episode, we’ll show you a couple of tips for drawing anime children faces.

The face is one of the most important and expressive part of a manga character. That’s why today we are going to learn how to draw manga faces. In order to do that, we’re going to watch a couple of pictures of various types of manga faces, then learn the basics from a couple of guides and in the end, watch some videos of experts doing what they know best: drawing manga faces.

Now, there are as many manga faces types as human’s face expressions: countless. The images below show only a few of them, but remember, you can learn how to draw faces expressing almost everything: from sorrow till happiness.

The pictures above came from artists on Deviantart. But you can learn to draw manga faces as they do, if you’ll read the guides bellow and watch the videos.

Draw manga face – side view

Draw a circle for your character’s head. Cut it in 4 quarters with two guidelines. On the front part you’ll draw the face, on the back one the hair.

Now, split the front part in two with a vertical line, like in the picture. You can then see how the eyes and the face elements should be placed. On the back part you’ll then have to draw ears and later on, hair.

Manga face – front view

Every face starts with some kind of circle. You already know that from our previous guides. But there are different types of faces, some rounder, other oval, as you can see in the picture below.

In manga drawing, you have to know from the beginning what kind of face will you draw and plan the face elements position accordingly. As you see in the picture, for a oval face, the elements are situated with a greater horizontal gap between them but tighter on a vertical plan. While, on a round face, the elements are kind of grouped together. These are just basic rules, cause in manga it’s all about experimenting and letting your hand free. And practicing a lot.

In the end, we have a couple of videos. These guy has quite a skill in drawing manga faces and i hope you’ll be able to learn a couple of things from them.

Draw a manga face from profile

How to draw different facial expressions

Draw a manga face line by line

If you think all these resources are not enough, then perhaps you should check out these books below made by some of the best manga drawing artist in the world. They are printed and distributed by Amazon and come for very good prices. Check them out below:

That’s it for today. If you enjoyed this guide, remember that we also wrote about how to draw manga hair and manga eyes earlier.

Since you learned a couple of days ago to draw manga eyes, i thought it will be a good idea to continue those manga drawings lessons. Today, with a couple of guides showing you how to draw manga hair, for boys and girls both.

Drawing manga hair is not easy at all, as you might have noticed that most of the characters from manga/anime series have quite funky hairstyles. But once again, we have here today a couple of thorough videos from the master himself, Mark Crilley, showing you step by step what you need to know when drawing a boy’s or a girl’s manga hair.

Of course, hundreds and hundreds of hours spent in front of the drawing board will be needed before you will be able to do what he does, so.. what are you waiting for? Start practicing.

But let’s take a look at these guides.

How to draw managa hair: male and female

How to draw managa hair in pencil

I’m sure you’ve learned a lot from the videos above, but i’m going to add a couple of basic rules you should look for when drawing manga hair:

Draw hair for a male manga character:

a manga male chracter usually has wavy or spiky hair

Use a circular guideline to help you sketch the final hairstyle where it should be

Coordinate the hairstyle with the look of the face

Show spiky hair by drawing lines that come to a point, almost like a long triangle, all around the front of the face and head.

Draw hair for a female manga character:

Use guidelines

Draw the outline of the hair first and then fill it with a few sparing lines for extra details

To show the effect of movement or wind, draw the hair off to the side of the head

More details about this you can find here .

If you think all these resources are not enough, then perhaps you should check out these books below made by some of the best manga drawing artist in the world. They are printed and distributed by Amazon and come for very good prices. Check them out below:

After you’ve learned how to draw Orochimaru, it’s now time for another villain: Itachi, Sasuke’s evil brother.

We have a 9 steps pretty thorough guide, so it will require lots of practice from you in order to learn how to draw Itachi properly.

You can find more info, pictures and wallpapers about this mysterious character responsible for the death of almost the entire Uchiha clan here, cause we’re going to jump straight to the drawing guide now.

Step 1: Start by drawing Itachi’s head protector lines. From there, continue with the face and chin. Draw two guidelines for the face elements, like in the picture.

Step 2: Continue drawing the face lines. Then sketch the ear and the mouth, nose and eyebrows with the help of the guidelines made in the previous step. Draw another guideline in order to make sure the eyes will be placed on the same level.

Step 3: Start drawing the eyes (more details will be added to them further on, so stick to the guide) and neck lines. Draw a helping line for the hair and then concentrate on the fringe. You should make two almost identical parts on both sides of the face, like in the picture.

Step 4: Continue drawing the rest of the hair and then add some details to the ear. Then go to Itachi’s body and draw its shoulders.

Step 5: Now erase all the guidelines drawn before and focus on the eyes. Add some details on them exactly like in the 5th picture and draw the mark on Itachi’s head protector.

Step 6: Finish the eyes and add details to the face, along with the required shadows.

Step 7: In the next steps we are going to focus on Itachi’s cloak, so make a guideline that should come over his nose and down to the shoulders, like in the 7th picture.

Step 8: Itachi wears his cloak closed or opened, but in this guide we are going to make it opened so you can see all the face elements drawn before. That’s why you should sketch some guidelines for the opening now.

Step 9: In this final step, you will have to erase all the lines beneath the cloak and add some extra shadows and details to it. That’s it.

This guide was brought to you thanks to TooTaa18. I hope you enjoyed it and really learned how to draw Itachi Uchiha, the bad guy, from it.

First, take a look at Gaara’s pic from the show (on the right) to know exactly what are we trying to draw here. If you’re interested, you can find more wallpapers and details about Gaara here.

And now, let’s proceed with the guide:

Step 1: Start off by drawing the forehead and the face lines. Make some additional thin guides to help you place face elements later on.

Step 2: Draw the nose and the mouth and continue drawing the face line till it’s completed. Now sketch the ear.

Step 3: Draw two guiding lines: a straight one for the eyes, to make sure they will be at the same level, and a curved one above the head to help you draw Gaara’s hair. Now sketch the eyes and start working on its fringe. Draw the neck lines.

Step 4: Finish the hair and add some details to the ear. Now, start drawing the body and the clothes your character wears.

Step 5: Erase all the helping lines. Now, we get to the details. Gaara has two distinctive tattoo marks: a big red sign on his forehead and eyes surrounded by some kind of black make up or something. Make sure you put these in your drawings.

Step 6: Coming to the final step, all you have to do now is add what can be seen of Gaara’s backpack and some shadows.

That was about and now you’ve learned how to draw Gaara fo the Desert. Wasn’t that hard, was it? Now start practicing till you get perfect and stay tuned for our other Naruto characters drawing guides to come.

After you’ve learned how to draw most of the Naruto characters, it’s now time for the lead character in the series: Naruto himself. It’s kind of a difficult figure to sketch, mostly because of his face expression and funky hair, but hey, you’ll manage. Particularly since the guide is very thorough and yet simple, having no more then 6 easy steps.

So let’s get going:

Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle for the head and some guidelines for the face elements, that are going to help you later.

Step 2: Sketch a bigger circle above the previous one, that will act like a guide for the hair. Naruto has a head protector so sketch this one too.

Step 3: Using the guides sketched at step 1, draw Naruto’s eyes, ears and nose. Then, try to sketch his clothes, using a real photo from the series as a model.

Step 4: Draw Naruto’s hair and finish the head protector. Make the face lines permanent with a pen or a marker.

Step 5: Focus on the face. Add details to the eyes and ears, add eyebrows, etc.

Step 6: Finish the clothes and then erase all the helping guidelines sketched before. You’re almost ready. Now you just have to add some shadows and maybe some color to your Naruto drawing.

That’s it? Wasn’t that hard, right? Now go practice, cause I’m looking for your replies.

It won’t be so hard, as our lesson contains only 6 steps.

Kakashi Hatache is the one who trains all the famous characters from the series, like Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, etc. You can learn how to draw them from our previous guides here on How to draw Guide. Drawing Kakashi might prove to be difficult for a beginner, as there are lots of elements to take into consideration. But hopefully, our guide will teach you just what you need to draw Kakashi.

How to draw Kakashi in 6 steps (sketches from TooTaa18)

Step 1: Start by sketching the face lines. Draw two guidelines that should help you position the eyes and nose later on. Notice that Kakashi wears a head protector just on his forehead, so sketch this one too.

Step 2: Draw the eyes, nose and eyebrows. Also, draw Kakashi’s ears and add some details to them. You don’t have to draw a mouth, as it is covered by the mask Kakashi always wears.

Step 3: Draw the mask on Kakashi’s face and complete the lines for his head protector. Sketch the neck and start drawing the clothes.

Step 4: Finish the clothes. Add some details to them. Now focus on the hair. Just watch several Kakashi pictures from the show before you start drawing, as its hairstyle is kind of weird and might be a challenge for the drawer.

Step 5: Complete the hair and the head protector. Come back to Kakashi’s eyes and add the missing details. Don’t forget about his scar across the left eye.

Step 6: Your sketch is almost complete. All you have to do know is add some shadows to give the drawing more depth. That’s it, your Kakashi should look like the one in the sixth picture. Does it? If not, keep practicing. If yes, congrats.

That wasn’t so hard, was it? Feel free to post links to your tries of drawing Kakashi or any other feedback you might have.
